It is vital that we counter spin about the proposed changes to USS put out by the employers. Press releases and documents released by Universities UK and individual employers present the changes in a manner that obscures key aspects of what is proposed. A severe downgrade of USS pension provision is presented as an enhancement.
The outline of the proposed changes provided under “The Dispute” seeks more truthfully to make clear what is at stake for USS members if the UUK proposal is imposed. But we need your help. Emphasise to your colleagues (a) the likely impact of the proposal on USS members and (b) why massive reductions in USS’s liabilities are unnecessary: the valuation that led to the deficit is dodgy (see here and here).
